Bible and Monotheism

The major difference between Islam and Christianity is the Christians’ insistence on the supposed divinity of Christ (pbuh). A study of the Christian scriptures reveals that Jesus (pbuh) never claimed divinity. In fact there is not a single unequivocal statement in the entire Bible where Jesus (pbuh) himself says, "I am God" or where he says, "worship me". In fact the Bible contains statements attributed to Jesus (pbuh) in which he preached quite the contrary. The following statements in the Bible are attributed to Jesus Christ (pbuh):

(i) "My Father is greater than I."
[The Bible, John 14:28]

(ii) "My Father is greater than all."
[The Bible, John 10:29]

(iii) "…I cast out devils by the Spirit of God…."
[The Bible, Mathew 12:28]

(iv) "…I with the finger of God cast out devils…."
[The Bible, Luke 11:20]

(v) "I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgement is just; because I seek not my own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me."
[The Bible, John 5:30]

"And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou has sent."
[The Bible, John 17:3]

"… and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me."
[The Bible, John 14:24]

The following verse from the book of Deuteronomy contains an exhortation from Moses (pbuh):

"Shama Israelu Adonai Ila Hayno Adna Ikhad".
It is a Hebrew quotation which means:
"Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord"
[The Bible, Deuteronomy 6:4]

"I, even I, am the Lord; and beside me there is no saviour."
[The Bible, Isaiah 43:11]

"I am Lord, and there is none else, there is no God besides me."
[The Bible, Isaiah 45:5]

"I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me."
[The Bible, Isaiah 46:9]

Old Testament condemns idol worship in the following verses:

"Thou shalt have no other gods before me."

"Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:"

"Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God."
[The Bible, Exodus 20:3-5]

Not So Political said...

(i) "My Father is greater than I."
[The Bible, John 14:28]

- You have to read the entire chapter to grasp this. Here Jesus is promising the Holy Spirit.
"
25 "All this I have spoken while still with you. 26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in MY name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."

Why would the father send us the Holy Spirit in "Jesus (MY)" name?

(ii) "My Father is greater than all."
[The Bible, John 10:29]

- This passage outlines the unbelief of the Jews. The complete verse is "29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand. 30 I and the Father are one." - What does this tell you now? If Jesus is saying the I and the Father are one, doesn't that imply his divinity? Can you say you and your father are one, no, you both are two distinct persons, but Jesus here refers to himself as being the same as his father. I would recommend reading the verses from 22 - 39 to get the complete picture.

(iii) "…I cast out devils by the Spirit of God…."
[The Bible, Mathew 12:28]

- This story is about Jesus and Beelzebub. The Jews were accusing Jesus in being in league with the demons. "24 But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, "It is only by Beelzebub, the prince of demons, that this fellow drives out demons." To this Jesus said that "26 If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand? 27 And if I drive out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your people drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. 28 But if I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you." Jesus has the spirit of God and so he was able to perform these miracles.

(iv) "…I with the finger of God cast out devils…."
[The Bible, Luke 11:20]

- Exactly the same story and miracle as above mentioned in the book of Matthew.

(v) "I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgement is just; because I seek not my own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me."
[The Bible, John 5:30]

- These verses where Jesus talks about "his Father", he's actually referring to his father in a literal sense. Jesus was born of the Holy Spirit of God, Joseph was not Jesus's father. This is why Jesus can boast freely that he is doing his Father's work, and was sent by his "Father"

"And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou has sent."
[The Bible, John 17:3]

- Here Jesus is praying for himself "1 After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: "Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. 2 For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. 3 Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. 4 I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began." The last verse 5 is quite interesting don't you think? Still you don't believe in Jesus's divinity as God's son?

"… and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me."
[The Bible, John 14:24]
